One day, we hacked away at the ivy and prised open the wooden gate of an old disused farmyard, full of tumble down buildings and junk. We saved whatever we could, stripping the buildings of their timber cladding to be re-used as fencing. The old victorian wall provided us with all the bricks we needed, cleaned by hand over six weeks by granny and granddad. Two years of work followed with many sunny days, stopping to cook sausages on the chimenea, and a few freezing winter mornings, stamping feet and getting the coffee on.
